CPU usage will go up very high if the video you selected is encoded in a way the chromecast cannot read! It will increase only a bit if the audio format is wrong! The videos you are selecting (i,e, mist MKVs or AVIs, etc.) need to be converted on the fly by us, which uses a bunch of CPU! Be happy, a lot of peoples' PCs cannot handle this process!

[Developer Post] - Videostream just casts its tab!
Hi everyone! We think we figured this out!
If you run an antivirus (seen the issue with avast, avg and others) and open videostream from the chrome apps launcher in your start bar in windows sometimes Videostream will cast its tab instead of your video!
That's this launcher:
If instead you use the apps page in chrome, it shouldn't cast the tab!
If this helps please let us know which antivirus you use, if any! If it doesn't work, let us know!!
Cheers!

RE: start stop every five minutes or so
Again, these forums are no longer supported so please contact via email in future :)
The 5 minute issues (crashes and buffering) are caused by AVG and Avast on the new windows update and how they interact with chrome. There's nothing we can do at this point :( but to fix the problem you can disable your antivirus or put an exception in for chrome, and then reboot chrome with chrome://restart!

RE: THIS FORUM IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED
Also, don't worry, we're still putting in a massive dev effort on VS! This forum was great when we were a couple people in a living room and we were hoping all our great videostreamers could help each other, but as we've grown to a larger team of 5 with dedicated support, it's was easier for them to work on problems one by one, as this community never really grew into what we were hoping it would.
That said, our big secret project for the past while has been a brand new, ground-up version of Videostream! It gives us more power that ever before to build cool new features on top of, and gives us more power to avoid buffering by transcoding videos faster for the Chromecast to read! If you want to try that out, sign up at https://docs.google.com/a/jmoore.it/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf3YZDsM-H2AaiaLqY9QZYtR3KsHJxL-_3OTySvJv_2X-ocbQ/viewform?c=0&w=1&usp=send_form ;)

RE: start stop every five minutes or so
Hey all, just making a post on the main forum to pin. This forum is not actively maintained anymore (all the links were removed from in the app) and we don't look at it. We have a full time support staff at this point who will work one-on-one on every issue via email and you can reach him at team at getvideostream.com.

THIS FORUM IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED
Hey All!
Now that we have full time staff answering problems over email, this forum is not actively looked at by us! We're still actively developing Videostream (brand new version is in beta right now) but this community isn't where to go for help. We have a great support person who will answer your emails and work with you one on one to solve pesky problems :)

RE: does videostream use internet data while streaming existing videos on the computer?
Sorry we didn't reply sooner! We use a tiny amount of data when our app is loaded onto your chromecast. Like <1MB, the video itself goes directly from computer to Chromecast so no internet data is used for that, we don't want to foot that bill ;)
Also we've pretty much depreciated these forums now! Future questions will be best emailed to us as we have a support person now to help faster! team@getvideostream.com
Cheers!

RE: [Developer Post] - Videostream just casts its tab!
@Kaijoe We're much better on email! We started the forums mostly because some Videostreamers wanted to help others!
If you update to the newest videostream (uninstall then reinstall the extension) we found a way to fix Google's app launcher we think. Let me know if it works after updating!

RE: Is there a shortcut icon that's supposed to appear for videostream on the extensions tab of Chrome?
And in mac we're in spotlight! You can add desktop shortcuts to us. Pretend Videostream is just like anything else installed to your computer.
Please DON'T use the apps launcher, Google has some weird bugs that cause problems for us when launched from the launcher!

RE: Won't cast avi's
@dannyburke Super sorry! Could we do a remote desktop session?? We want to dig into this further! Shoot me an email at matt@getvideostream.com :)

RE: Can you cast in 3D?
Hi! Like @tuliobarata said, we work technically but some MKV videos in 3d are too giant (too much data per second) for the chromecast to decode! I've watched the hobbit and x-men in 3d but YMMV! It's something we're working on improving, it's just an extreme case of what causes buffering in other videos as well.
@tuliobarata could I get a link to the source of that 3d video? You can email me at matt@getvideostream.com!
