I have the same problem with the subtitles when I'm working with a playlist. The first video of the playlist detects the subtitle properly but when I play another different video inside the same playlist, it shows the subtitle for the first one. I added the folders with the videos and the subtitle to the Media Library and it always get the first .srt.

It's probably an issue with wireless signal interference.
Microwave ovens and most common wifi transmitters share the same frequency band(2.4 GHz).
Changing to a newer router wouldn't help either as chrome cast, as far as I know, only supports 2.4 GHz.

My suggestions for fixes are:

Changing what channel your wifi setup is on. Moving the microwave oven. moving the wifi router. buying a more isolated microwave. using direct connection from the computer to your router (as the chrome cast is still connected this probably won't help). accepting defeat and buy pre-popped popcorn for the next movie night ;-)

I believe that when your Android phone is in WiFi Hotspot mode, it is not connected to the wifi network it creates. Therefore you won't be able to select/connect to the chromecast since the phone itself is not on the same network as the chromecast.

I just did a system restore (Windows 8.1) to last night and the sound came back again. Now I'll just have to figure out which of the 30-40 updates which caused the sound-issue -_-

@zero66 : That's the way it is supposed to work. The app needs to be running on the PC for the phone to communicate with it.

Check which version you have on your mobile device. I was having the same issues on my Blackberry Q10, but I thought it had more to do with the "Android Lite" that BB runs. I found an update to .122 was available just a little while ago. Once I removed the Google Play Services dependency (often a requirement for android apps on BB), and reinstalled the upgrade, it connected immediately!

And it DOES keep track of where you left off, if you tap the correct button. Just tried it out.
