Yes, I could use it, but not as extension for my browser, not multiplataform and not compatible with ChromeOS.
There still no Solutions this way, and i'm pretty sure that videostream is capible to do this work without a lot of work.

load and play video inside a chorme tab
as a video player (local Content)
this could be used plus streaming (mirror tv + pc)
Hello
It's possible to make videstream also reproduce local content in chrome tab (as a player)?
If you look, you will see that there is no good option for local file play, with external subtitles, open subtitles support and even the quantity of video formats.
Another cool feature could be mirrored reproduction, in local player and cast reproduction.
Regards.
I have this same issue
I'm loading external subtitles (SRT format, without any overwrite) to a nexus players, and seems that it's keep the original black and small size.
try to relauch, recast to reaload app, but still don't work.
I appreciate some help, otherwise I do see any advantage in premium features.
Edit: test on a 1 gen Chromecast and works perfect, it's seems some problem with nexus player and yours google cast support
Edit 2: Just realize that mandatory settings for subtitle are made in google play movie settings. It will overwrite videostream settings
