Maria Ozawa was in town on the penultimate day of 2022 as an ambassador for Mansion Sports Bar, a noisy new club in Makati that seemed to shake up one of the quieter streets in Makati’s Legaspi Village.

Ms. Ozawa isn’t new to the club scene: according to her, she has two lounges in Manila; one in Makati, and another in Manila’s Port Area. She also owns a bar in her native Japan.

In 2005, Maria Ozawa began her journey as the queen of smaller screens: watched in secret by boys of all ages. The Canadian-Japanese star awakened their sexuality as she performed stunt after stunt on camera. She left the industry around 2009, having performed also in some mainstream Japanese films. She appeared in some mainstream films in Southeast Asia at the beginning of the 2010s. While the pandemic had kept her in Japan, she has traveled back and forth between the countries since travel restrictions have been lifted.

When BusinessWorld met her, Ms. Ozawa was wearing a white halter dress with a neckline held up by chains. She displayed an almost-girlish innocence and enthusiasm, and spoke with a high, charming voice. She discussed the reasons why she left the adult film industry. “That was a long time ago. Around 2009 or 2010,” she pointed out.

“I’ve accomplished my dream. I know that that industry isn’t an industry that you can do forever. Not for long-term,” she explained.

“When I started this, I wanted to be famous, and I wanted to change the inspiration and the thinking about the industry itself. I did — then I won an award,” she said.

If Ms. Ozawa’s recollections about leaving the industry are correct, she left the industry near the time she won at the 2009 AV Grand Prix, a Japanese award-giving body for the adult film industry (called the AV, as in “adult video,” in Japan). In that year, one of her films won the Best Violence Video Award and another, Oral Venus, won a special award in the Featured Actress Video category.

“I think that was the time when I thought, ‘If I quit, would I still be famous?’ People would be like, ‘Where did she go? What happened to her?,’ rather than just continuously doing [films] until they forget about you. A fast decision, I think,” she told BusinessWorld. “Luckily, I was well-known in other countries.”

Boskalis, an international services provider operating in the dredging, maritime infrastructure and maritime services sectors, may leave the Netherlands.

The company CEO, Peter Berdowski, said on Sven Op 1 radio show that the chance for this scenario is very real. The main topic of the radio debate was a new law on corporate social responsibility.

In an interview with FD earlier this week, he also confirmed that “it would be impossible for him to do business in the Netherlands once the new law comes into force.”

He believes that “Boskalis’ legal position is becoming too uncertain.”

Cristiano Ronaldo has completed a transfer to Al Nassr.

Ronaldo was strongly linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League side after his second spell at Manchester United ended in acrimonious fashion in late November.

Nepal T20 League is once again in the news for the wrong reasons.

Players representing Kathmandu Knights and Biratnagar Superkings refused the take the field on Tuesday morning. They said they did not want to take the field stating they had not been paid their due salaries.

The players did take the field later on as the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) guaranteed that the players would be paid.

They resorted to protest after the news of Jatin Ahluwalia, the co-founder of Seven3Sports, the commercial and strategic partner of Nepal T20 League, feeling to India to avoid paying the players started making rounds.

Ahluwalia however, dismissed the claim as he told Onlinekhabar from India that he had gone there to manage bank transfers to ensure the cricketers would be paid.

This is not the only news that has come out from Nepal T20 League.

Sachin Timalsena, one of the commentators of the tournament, has said he is no longer going to be a part of the tournament as he has seen hints of spot-fixing during the tournament.

Releasing a video on Facebook, he said he had seen hints of spot-fixing during different matches and had reported them to the anti-corruption unit and CAN.

Gyanendra Malla, the captain of Kathmandu Knights, supported Timilsena’s claim as told journalists on Tuesday that one of his players was approached by someone who wanted to spot-fix.

Former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner said on Friday that former President Donald Trump should be indicted because he already “confessed” to taking highly classified documents to his Mar-a-Lago home after leaving the White House last year.

“…It is long past time to arrest Donald Trump for his obvious crimes, his ongoing crimes. Crimes to which he has confessed,” Kirschner said in a video he posted to Twitter. “He actually said ‘I took these documents’ more openly and more transparently than other presidents. It is not like there is some challenge in proving that Donald Trump took the documents openly and transparently.”

Kirschner said that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is treating Trump differently as it continues to investigate his mishandling of classified documents, which were seized by FBI agents in August following an approval from Attorney General Merrick Garland. Meanwhile, Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in regard to the documents and said that any classified documents that he took had already been declassified.

“You need to treat the former president, the way you treat every other American who commits crimes,” Kirschner added, referring to the way the DOJ is handling its investigation. “And Donald Trump is being treated better than and different than everybody else who commits any kind of crimes that are comparable, mishandles classified information and it’s wrong and it’s gotta stop.”

The DOJ recently asked Washington, D.C., District Chief Judge Beryl Howell to hold Trump’s office in contempt of court for failing to comply with a subpoena that was issued in May that required the former president to return all classified documents.

However, the federal judge on Friday refused to hold Trump or his legal team in contempt of court and asked the DOJ to handle the issue itself, ABC News reported. Had Judge Howell agreed to hold the ex-president in contempt, he would have been fined on a daily basis until he complied with the subpoena’s requirements.

Kirschner on Friday said that Judge Howell was right to decline the DOJ’s request and criticized the DOJ’s prolonged process in indicting Trump as federal prosecutors asked Trump’s lawyers to certify twice that the former president gave back all classified information and that no more documents were still at Mar-a-Lago, according to The Guardian.

“What Judge Howell was saying in substance ‘do your job‘ and frankly it makes [the] DOJ look weak and feckless…unwilling or unable to deal with the crimes of Donald Trump,” Kirschner said, adding later that “the federal judges have been telling the DOJ for a very long time ‘take care of this problem.'”

Kirschner said that the DOJ is putting Trump a “little above the law” by not treating him the same way any American who commits crimes would be treated.

“If somebody robs a bank. First of all, we typically don’t subpoena the bank robber and say ‘can you please return all the money you stole to the bank or maybe bring it to the grand jury pursuant to this subpoena. No, you get a search warrant and an arrest warrant and you lock up the bank robber for the crime he committed, but that’s not the way [the] DOJ decided to go with Donald Trump,” Kirschner added.

Hundreds of documents with sensitive material were recovered from Trump’s house during the court-authorized search. Those documents reportedly included information about nuclear programs and highly classified programs. Meanwhile, one of Trump’s lawyers said in June that all classified documents were returned, but the FBI found evidence that suggested that he still kept more sensitive records.

Trump on Friday criticized authorities for taking the documents from his house.

“Under the Presidential Records Act and the very well established Clinton Socks Case, the raid of Mar-a-Lago by the FBI, and the taking of documents and many other items, was ILLEGAL,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform. “Everything should be returned, at once!”

Further expressing his dissatisfaction with the way the DOJ is handling the Mar-a-Lago investigation, Kirschner said, “I am not sure when the Department of Justice is gonna get the message or get the memo that they need to indict Donald Trump for his crimes.”
