HEVC hardware decoding on supported devices (Android TV)

  • There are a lot of Google cast equipment available that supports hardware decoding of HEVC.

    • Chromecast Ultra
    • Android TV: Nvidia Shield TV + other china variants.

Videostream lets us stream to Android TV devices, but treat it as a regular Chromecast. Therefore HEVC files gets trancoded on the "server" PC before streamed to the device, which is very CPU intensive and often leads to lag/ stuttering.

I wish in future updates Videocast could differentiate the various Google Cast devices, and by the specs decide whether a stream should be streamed directly or transcoded.
