How do you make chromecast WORK on your pc?

I got my iPad to hook up on chrome but I can't get my pc to! I even looked it up and I tried but it still failed.

also it only shows the google web page

In Chrome add the 'Google Cast' extension to connect to Chromecast and the 'Videostream for Google Chromecast' extension to play videos via Google cast. There are other Extensions in chrome that I haven't really played with.
