Swedish backpacks solve back problems by distributing the weight evenly across the shoulders, making them more comfortable to carry. This design was created by Ake Nordin, who collaborated with the Swedish Guide and Scout Association to create the Kanken backpack in 1978. Since then, it has helped straighten millions of backs and is worn by people from around the world.
The back-pain problem was one of the major problems faced by Swedes, and the Swedish backpacks were designed with that in mind. Ake Nordin, a hiker himself, knew that a well-designed backpack would allow you to carry all your belongings without causing back pain. In his research, he found that 80 percent of Swedes experienced back pain when carrying a shoulder bag. Nordin decided to solve the problem by designing a backpack that could be used around town.
